What to Wear: First Day of Work
“No Dress Code.”
That’s what my new boss said. Gah. “A bit boring for a fashionista, huh?” I had to laugh a little. Had he known the relief those words brought to this particular fashionista, he would have laughed at the ludicrous-ness! Hahaha.
Don’t get me wrong. I do love getting dressed for work and all. Uh, I love dressing up. Full stop. It’s just that it’s been a while since I had to “look” professional and all since I’ll be working behind the desk, uh, I mean work a 9 to 5 job again.
I’ve never conformed to the typical clothes women wear to work. I’ve always let my personal style shine through all the time. I like looking smart and chic on some days and others, I like wearing outfits that are “nightlife” worthy.
In reality, the “no dress code” rule kind of liberates and challenges the stylist in me. As I rummaged through my wardrobe, I soon realised — I’ve got nothing decent to wear! Ack!
I own a lot of pairs of shoes but still they’re not right. Sheesh. I noticed that most of my clothes are meant for going out and not really fit for office wear nor is it fit for the position I’m about to fill.
I dragged my mum to the mall so I can check if I can find some decent pair of “work” shoes. Stilletos simply won’t do. And perhaps buy a top and a skirt. Twas such rotten luck since I ran out of sizes for the pair I fell in love with AND the mall was closing. Grrr.
So disappointing.
For now, I’ll use these GAP outfits as inspiration for the work outfits I’ll be wearing. These looks are casual, stylish, smart and fun. They still abide by the “no dress code” rule [imagine me snickering] and still maintain a look of somebody who can get the job done.
Utter coolness.
Anyway, I’ll continue window shopping online and schedule my shopping spree this coming weekend.

My mom and I scrambled to buy me a wardrobe after my first day at work. I hope that shopping at SM (The Wal-mart of the Philippines) hasn’t given ugly clothes!
On an unrelated note, GAP has just joined the (PRODUCT) RED project to help AIDS research. And so has Motorola. :)

Yea, I did see it being advertised on their site. Thanks for the tip, Rico.
About your *new* work clothes, from initial impression, they ain’t that bad. I guess your mom still has a good eye for fashion. Hehehe. :)

Well, mom is really good with traditional fashion, and you can’t get more traditional than office attire (formal attire maybe?). :)

But I think with a little more tweaking, your look can already be considered as “metro” so you’ve got to give her credit for that! With a little more practice [take her with you when you go out shopping again] she’ll be able to nail it! ;)
